Medical Sciences Academy

All students partaking in the Medical Sciences Academy must adhere to and complete the requirements listed in the School District of Palm Beach County Clinical Handbook.

Parental Notification of Background Check & Drug Screening Test: Background Check will be conducted by Palm Beach County School District. In addition, students attending clinical classes will be required to take a Drug Screening Test. If a student does not pass the background check and/or drug screening,nhe/she will not be allowed to register for a clinical course and will be dismissed from the
Medical Sciences Academy.

Student Driving-Riding:
In order for your child to participate in the clinical training at the health care facilities, he/she will be responsible for his/her own transportation.

Medical Sciences Uniform/Dress Code: The Dress Code is intended to ensure that all students dress in a manner, which reflects professionalism, enhances their safety, and projects a positive image, so as not to offend patients, visitors, and other staff members. Students are to follow these rules at all times.

8417100 - Health Science Anatomy and Physiology Honors
This course is part of the secondary Health Science Core consisting of an overview of the human body, both structurally and functionally with emphasis on the pathophysiology and transmission of disease. Medical terminology is an integral part of the course.

8417110 - Health Science Foundations Honors
This course is part of the Secondary Health Science Core designed to provide the student with an in-depth knowledge of the healthcare system and associated occupations.  Emphasis is placed on communication and interpersonal skills, use of technology, ethics and the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills.

8417131 - Allied Health Assisting 3 Honors
This clinical course is designed to provide the student with an in-depth knowledge of the healthcare system and associated occupations.  Emphasis is placed on communication and interpersonal skills, use of technology, ethics and the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills.  Students are required to complete approximately 75 clinical hours.

8701010 - Behavioral Health Technician 3 Honors
This course is designed to provide an integrated cross-trained foundation and practical experience in behavioral and social sciences. The content includes, but is not limited to, basic psychopharmacology, medical terminology, electronic medical records and documentation, patient teaching and education, wellness and disease concepts, mental illness, growth and development, diseases and disorders.

8427130-Electrocardiograph Technician 3 Honors
This course prepares students to be employed as Electrocardiograph Technicians. Content includes, but is not limited to, a foundation in the cardiovascular system, safety measures for the individual, co-workers and patients as well as training in the appropriate theories and instruments used by an Electrocardiograph Technician.

8417171-Emergency Medical Responder 3 Honors
This course prepares students to be employed as Emergency Medical Responders. Content includes, but not limited to, identifying and practicing within the appropriate scope of practice for an Emergency Medical Responder, demonstrating correct medical procedures for various emergency situations, proficiency in the appropriate instruments used, as well as a foundation in the musculoskeletal system of the body.
